Friday Night Football Tonight On WZQZ – Trion vs Temple
Local News, Local News Items 0
Week 3 of high school football kicks off tonight on WZQZ. The Chattooga Indians, who are currently 2-0 on the season after a 28-0 win over Coahulla Creek last week, will take the night off as they enjoy a bye week this week and will be preparing for a home game with Mount Zion next week.
The Trion Bulldogs won their 12th straight regular season game last week in a tight road game at Dade County. The Bulldogs moved to 2-0 on the season with the 31-28 victory over the Wolverines but the test looks to be tougher tonight when the Temple Tigers roll into Sam R. McCain Stadium. Conversely, Trion will also be the toughest test the Tigers have faced this year. Temple rolled over AAAA Clarkston last week 62-8, a team that has only won three games in the past two seasons. Two weeks ago in Week 1, Temple defeated the McNair Mustangs 23-6. McNair has went 4-6 for the past two seasons. Last year, Temple finished 5-6 overall and finished 3rd out of 4 teams in Region 4-A. The Tigers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last year by Irwin County 41-17.
You can listen to all of the action tonight on WZQZ. The Trion game will be live streamed on the WZQZ Facebook page and broadcast live on 99.1 FM and AM 1180. Join WZQZ’s Jeremy Burke and Paul Cavin as they call the action live from Sam R. McCain stadium in Trion tonight along with cameraman Jim Warnock. The pregame show will begin at around 7:15 pm with kickoff to follow at 7:30 pm.

Chattooga Animal Control Conducts Spay/Neuter Clinic
Local News, Local News Items 0
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, Chattooga County Animal Control conducted a spay and neuter clinic. Over forty animals were treated in the two-day event that was held at the shelter in Summerville. The clinic was possible after Chattooga County obtained a grant from the Atlanta Humane Society to help cover the cost of the services provided. Chattooga County Animal Control released a statement saying, “We want to thank #bettertogether for spending the last two days with us here in Chattooga County. These are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and they ABSOLUTLY love what they do. We are working to do this again hopefully in October. We also want to thank Mandy Hale with Telega Springs Farm for allowing us to borrow a generator for the Wellness Wagon, and to Fayla Reynolds Vaughn at Barry’s Auto Sales for allowing us to borrow a power cord for the bus. We can’t wait to do this again so keep your eyes open for more dates”.

BOE Votes To Roll Back Millage Rate
Local News, Local News Items 0
The Chattooga County Board of Education met in a called meeting on Thursday morning at the Chattooga Education Center to set the millage rate for property taxes. The board voted unanimously to roll back the millage rate. The rate will be 10.597. Both the Board of Education and Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry had announced their intentions earlier this year to roll back the millage rate. A tax rate of one mill represents a tax liability of one dollar per $1,000 of assessed value. According to the Georgia Department of Revenue, the average millage rate assessed by local governments across the state is 30 mills. In 2023, Chattooga County had the fourth lowest property tax rate in the state with only Appling, Stewart and Quitman Counties being lower. Fulton County has the highest.
