Red & Near-Infrared LED Masks are great for anti-aging your skin but they’re not all created equal. I researched the popular brands to help you choose the right mask for you!
Why Use A Red & Near Infra-Red LED Light Mask
Red and near infra-red light were originally studied by NASA and found to be helpful with wound healing in space. Since then visible light has been studied for anti-aging and certain wavelengths in the red and near infra-red spectrum have been shown to increase collagen density, reduce wrinkles, fade redness and age spots, and decrease texture in the skin!
Fast forward about 20 years and now LED technology has advanced so the lights are accurate and tiny so they can be put into wearable masks to anti-age the face (& neck, & chest, & hands)!
My Experience Using LED Light Therapy
I was sent the EcoFace LED mask last year and started using it last spring. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the after pictures were really impressive! My crow’s feet were reduced and my skin tone was so much more even and redness dramatically reduced, so I’m sold on it!
You can see the results here.
Since then I’ve tried a few other masks and looked into what makes these masks work because if I’m going to spend my time wearing one I want it to be the best!
The Science of a Good Mask
There are specific wavelengths of light that have been studied the most and show the best results for anti-aging and these wavelengths have been used for years in medical grade devices in doctors offices (they also happen to be the devices that many of the studies used). They’re made by Omnilux and use 633nm red light and 830nm near infra-red light. So in looking for an at home mask I want to make sure the mask uses the same wavelengths and has enough power or intensity to get results.
I made a chart with the important information and compared 6 masks to the Omnilux Pro device. You can see the OmniLux medical grade devices specs across the top and how the different at-home masks stack up below.
I explain all the details and you can see me wearing the masks and talking about the comfort in the video above! My top pick of these masks is the OmniLux Contour (even though I don’t have it yet) or the Current Body. I also like the EcoFace since it’s the one that delivered my results originally! The Dr. Dennis Gross mask is the most comfortable but doesn’t offer as many bulbs and is the most expensive.
