Obituary for Louis Charles Marshall, Sr. at Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. - Muskogee (2024)

Louis Charles Marshall, Sr., was born on March 25, 1943, in Wagoner County to Adallas and Pearline (Riser) Marshall. He was the third of ten children born, and the family lived in Porter, OK. He gave his life to Christ at 12 years old, under the leadership of Reverend Theodore Hickerson at Shiloh Baptist Church. He attended elementary at Marshall Oak Grove School and high school at Porter High School.

Louis met and married the love of his life, Mary Etta Asberry. They were married on January 30, 1962, in Haskell, OK. To this union, they had four children, Marilyn Marshall passed away at two weeks old and Eddie Marshall passed away on February28, 2023. The two children remaining are a daughter, Charlesetta Shoni Johnson, and a son, Louis Charles Marshall, Jr.

Louis was a truck driver for Dodson and Son Trucking in Haskell, OK, for eight years. He later worked at Superior Tank for a few years. He then worked at Oklahoma Steel in Tulsa, OK, until the business dissolved. Soon after, he went to work for Big Four Foundries which is Fastcast Foundry in Tulsa, OK, and was employed there until his death.

He was a dedicated employee. His work ethic was admired by many. Work was what he instilled in his children to take care of family and to save what they could for a rainy day. He often said it says in the Bible, “If a man doesn’t work, he doesn’t eat.” He enjoyed his career and was very reliable and rarely missed work. He only missed when the family was going through something of their own and needed him. In the
ice and snow, he was the family’s dependable transportation.

Louis was a trusted trustee at Shiloh Baptist Church in Red Bird, OK, for numerous years. He became ordained as a deacon under the leadership of Pastor Derrick A. Mitchell. He served as Chairman of the Finance Committee for many years. He was the adult class Sunday school teacher for years. He took God’s Word seriously and knew numerous scriptures by memory. Louis was always a man of few words. But when he spoke, people listened because his words were of wisdom and truth. This was true with all areas and relationships of
his life.

He enjoyed family dinner on Sundays and holidays at home with Mary and his children and grandchildren. After dinner, Louis would doze in his recliner, and the family would continue talking. When they would say something funny or say something about him dozing, he would say, “Every eye closed is not asleep.” He loved his family. Louis began reciting Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech in 1980. He
was called to do so many times at area churches and schools for 30 to 40 years during Black History Month in February. The last time he spoke was in February of 2023 at Shiloh Baptist Church.

In November of 2022, of Louis fought a battle with pneumonia and God brought him through victoriously. On Monday, December 4, Louis had an accident at work and was hospitalized. He was released after three days but returned to the hospital the following day due to complications.

On December 10, 2023, at 3:09 p.m., with his family by his side, God saw his suffering and the angels took him to his final resting
place. Louis fought a good fight.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Adallas and Pearline Marshall; and his five siblings who include, Leon, Adallas Jr., Dyvone, Ernest, and Jimmy Marshall.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mary Marshall of the home; his daughter, Shoni Johnson of Coweta; his son, Louis Charles (Melissa) Marshall, Jr., of Tulsa; his three granddaughters, Patricia, Felicia, and Johanna Johnson; his two grandsons, Tyrone and Tre Marshall; his three brothers, Richard (Regina) Marshall of Oklahoma City, Thomas Marshall of Muskogee, and Bobby (Vicki) Marshall of Tulsa; one sister, Dorethia (Walter) Trimble of Porter; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

The Hour of Remembrance for Mr. Marshall will commence on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Tenth Hour in the most holy sanctuary of First Baptist Church-Haskell.

You may visit Louis, as he slumbers in peaceful repose in The People's Chapel of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Muskogee, on Friday, December 22, 2023, between the hours of 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
